Mary Jane "Janie" Spires
July 7, 1930 - February 3, 2024
Mary Jane “Janie” Spires, daughter of the late Claude and Emma Ridout was born July 7, 1930 in Stout, Ohio and died on February 3, 2024 in West Union. In addition to her parents, she is preceded by her husband, Carlos Elwood Spires, on October 22, 1982, (they were wed July 12, 1952); two brothers; several nephews and nieces and many other family members.
She is survived by several nephews; several nieces, three sisters-in-law: Della Wolf, Marie Spires and Peggy DeVore; one brother-in-law, Joe DeVore and many cousins.
Janie graduated from Manchester High School in 1948. She attended Rome Community Church and was a faithful worker as long as her health permitted. She was a retired farmer and cook for the Ohio Valley School District. She lived her entire life in the Stout community and will be missed by all that knew her.
The visitation is 5 – 8 PM Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Lafferty Funeral Home, 205 South Cherry Street, West Union, Ohio 45693.
The 2nd visitation is 12 – 1 PM Friday, February 9, 2024 at Lafferty Funeral Home.
The funeral is 1 PM Friday, February 9, 2024 at Lafferty Funeral Home. Pastor Owen Applegate will officiate.
The interment is at Manchester Cemetery, 813 East 8th Street, Manchester, Ohio 45144.
