Dennis (Denny) Sininger

October 1, 1946 - June 13, 2018

In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his step. Proverbs 16:9

Dennis (Denny) Sininger, 71, of West Union, Ohio passed away on June 13, 2018 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, Ohio after an extended illness.  Denny was born on October 1, 1946 on a farm near Greenfield, Ohio.  His parents, Carl and Bessie Sininger, resided there while Carl was employed on the farm.

Denny graduated from West Union High School in the Class of 1964.  As an active, well-liked popular young man, he worked for many years at the hardware store in West Union owned by Jim and Jane Harsha.  After graduation, he joined the United States Navy, where he served as an Electrician's Mate from February 21, 1966 until May 9, 1969.  After serving his country, Denny returned to civilian life and was blessed with the birth of his beautiful daughter, Rebeka, born in 1983.

Denny was a Brown County businessman for many years and he continued to follow this path in life until severe health problems surfaced and he was unable to work.  After suffering with complications from an aneurysm, he made his home with his father and mother in West Union.  He was content playing cards in the basement with his dad, attending church services on Sundays at the Dunkinsville United Methodist Church, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Conversations with Denny would always challenge your spelling.  While communicating with him a family member was asked to spell "God".  During their talk Denny looked up to Heaven and said, "Jesus Christ, forgive me of my sins" - a very special event in Denny's life.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Bessie Sininger, and younger brother, Teddy, who was killed in action December 1968 during the Vietnam War.  The family suffered a tremendous loss with Teddy's passing and drew closer in the years to come.

In 2010, Denny joined the "family" of veterans of the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown.  It was here he spent the last years of his life getting to know many veterans from this area.  He was honored to have his father, Carl, join him there as a resident of the home for a short time before his passing, and it was here that Denny passed away.

Denny is survived  by his daughter Rebeka Lewis and her husband Adam of Seaman, Ohio, and sisters Sandra Berry of West Union and Pam Evans and her husband Owen of Louisville, Kentucky.  He is also survived by several dear nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts.

Services for Denny will be held on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union.  Visitation is from noon until 1 pm.  The funeral is at 1 pm with Pastor Steve Darby officiating.  Burial will follow in the Kirker Cemetery located near West Union in Liberty Township.  A military service will be performed by the Adams County Honor Guard.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley, 215 Hughes Boulevard, Mt. Orab Ohio 45154.

Life is but a stopping place; a pause in what's to be, a resting place along the road to sweet eternity.  We all have different journeys; different paths along the way, we all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay.  Our destination is a place; far greater than we know, for some the journey's grander, for some the journey's slow.  And when the journey finally ends; we'll claim a great reward, and find an everlasting peace, together with the Lord.   Author Unknown                                        Here he lies where he longed to be; home is the sailor, home from the sea.  Robert Louis Stevenson

It seems there was a whole lifetime forgotten from Dad' lifeline. This is understandable, yet still hurtful. On behalf of my siblings (Denny's stepchildren from his first wife, Bobbie Ann) Rick, Donna, Darlene, Mark, and Roy, as well as myself, Kristi, would like to say that we are happy that Dad found Christ before he passed. Again having him as a dad, was bittersweet. May he rest in peace.

So many childhood memories of the visits to West Union and with Denny, Teddy, Sandy, Pam, Uncle Carl and Aunt Bessie. The memories of the family reunions are lasting memories. Denny was always a joy to be around and we can be sure he is having a good time in heaven enjoying his reward. Again, shows the fragility of life. Our loss is heaven's gain and we will all be together again one day for the ultimate family reunion.
